About GENVP
Established 14th November, 1984
GENVP was established on 14 November 1984 as a platform for action on developmental issues facing the poor. Founded by like-minded associates, it involves Bihar's rural and urban poor in their own development, focusing on empowering women, youth and Dalit communities as agents of change.

Our Ongoing Programs
Engaging Champions to Expand Access to Improved and Quality Family Planning in Bihar
Gramin Evam Nagar Vikas Parishad (GENVP), as a Lead CSO, is working across 15 districts of Bihar to improve access to quality and informed family planning services. The program works closely with communities, healthcare workers, and local champions to create greater awareness and encourage people to make informed choices about their health and family well-being. Through this initiative, GENVP is helping build stronger community support for accessible, respectful, and quality family planning services.
Climate Champion Program – SAKHI
The Climate Champion Program – SAKHI is a community-led initiative focused on improving maternal and child nutrition in rural communities of Nawada, Bihar, an Aspirational District. The program brings communities together to understand the growing impact of climate change on health, food, and nutrition. By empowering local champions and promoting practical, community-based solutions, SAKHI aims to create healthier families and more resilient communities.
Shanti Kutir, Nalanda
GENVP runs Shanti Kutir, a Short Stay Home-cum-Classification Centre for women experiencing extreme poverty and those engaged in begging, at Nalanda. The initiative is carried out in collaboration with the State Society for Ultra Poor and Social Welfare (SSUPSW) under the Social Welfare Department, Government of Bihar.
The centre operates under the Mukhyamantri Bhikshavriti Nivaran Yojna (MBNY), popularly known as PAHCHAN, which focuses on addressing the challenges faced by people living in extreme poverty and those engaged in begging. Shanti Kutir began its operations in 2015 and provides a safe and supportive environment where women can receive care, guidance, rehabilitation support, and opportunities to rebuild their lives with dignity, confidence, and hope.

Geographical Reach in Bihar
Since 1984, Gramin Evam Nagar Vikas Parishad (GENVP) has been working to create meaningful and lasting change across Bihar. The organization has reached 22 districts through direct interventions, while its network of partners has helped extend its efforts across the entire state of Bihar.
Through its wide geographical reach and strong community partnerships, GENVP continues to work with underserved communities, addressing key social, health, livelihood, and empowerment challenges and bringing essential support closer to those who need it most.
Achieved Milestones
Establishment of Dalit Community Foundation
With support from the Global Fund for Community Foundations (GFCF), GENVP supported the establishment of the Dalit Community Foundation, an important step toward strengthening community leadership, inclusion, and the rights of Dalit communities.
The foundation was formally launched on 28th November 2018 by the Honorable Acting Chairman of the Bihar Legislative Council, Shri Md. Haroon Rashid, alongside the Honorable Former Minister of Bihar and representatives from GFCF and CRY India. The initiative reflects GENVP's commitment to creating stronger platforms for marginalized communities and supporting their journey toward dignity, equality, and greater participation.
